Powerful sawmill for massive logs

Wood-Mizer's WM1000 is designed to saw large, heavy hardwood and softwood logs, including tropical species. Durable and easy to use, this mill features a wide throat saw head that moves along a twin-rail frame.

With the capacity to saw 1.7m diameter logs in the centre, the WM1000 uses thin-kerf narrow bandsaw blades (50mm to 75mm width) that cut less sawdust for increased material recovery. The oversize blade wheels reduce stress on the blade and the long blade length gives longer cutting time between sharpenings. With the WM1000, logs can be sawn in half or into quarters, or cut into manageable cants for resawing. The operator safely controls all cutting functions while standing on a platform that moves with the head and includes computerised Setworks.

Strongly built for long service life in industrial applications, and with low installation costs, the WM1000 easily integrates into existing operations.

Control panel with Setworks

The two-sided blade lubrication system
provides cleaning and lubrication and reduces noise during cutting.

Sawdust scraper
Prevents build-up of sap or sawdust, reducing noise and vibration and extending blade life.

Blade tensioner
The hydraulic system used ensures constant tension during the cutting process and features an automatic safety cut-off which operates if the hydraulic pressure falls below the required level.

The twin trails which the WM1000 head travels on should be firmly anchored to the ground.
The WM1000 can be used in conjunction with the following bed configurations:

Log on the ground
In its simplest form the log can simply be placed on the
ground between the rails and wooden wedges can be
used to support the log while cutting. This is ideal for through
and through cutting, and is a low cost option.

Manual Bed
The standard manual bed configuration is offered with dual
sided adjustable wedge clamps and simple manual jacks for
taper setting, which are ideal for initial round log conversion.
Once the cant has been produced, the wedges can quickly
be replaced by side supports and the one-sided clamp can
then be used to hold the cant for further processing.

Hydraulic Log Handling
Wood-Mizer has come up with what we believe to be a first.
The hydraulic log handling system comes in two main
modules which can be separately ordered, in multiples,
to suit the length, straightness, weight and average diameter
of the logs to be cut.
• The basic module consists of clamp and side support
functions.
• The turning module consists of turner and power roller
functions.

WM1000 - maximum cutting sizes

Log on the ground
A log of 1.7m diameter can be cut in the centre or sawn through and through with the log on the ground. The thickness of the last board is limited by the height of the rails and is 300mm. This can be reduced if the log is raised off the ground by laying it on bolsters or 'dunnage' - in which case the maximum log diameter is reduced by that amount (see image above showing example of raising log by 200mm to achieve a final board thickness of 100mm).
Log on Manual Bed
A log of 1.18m diameter can be cut in the centre or sawn through and through when the manual bed is used with the WM1000 in standard configuration. An optional rail support system is available, which raises the sawmill so that a log of 1.63m diameter can be cut. The thickness of the last board is 235mm (this is due to the difference between the height of bed and the height of the rail support system).
Log on Modular Hydraulic Bed
A log of 1m diameter can be cut in the centre or sawn through and through when the hydraulic bed is used with the WM1000 in standard configuration. An optional rail support system is available, which raises the sawmill so that a log of 1.45m diameter can be cut. The thickness of the last board is 150mm (this is due to the height of the clamp support shown at the picture).
